Budget Kitchen Renovation in Centurion and Pretoria EastWhy replace, reface. Many Pretoria kitchens need to be titivated not replaced. A kitchen can look totally new with just tops and doors being replaced. Replacement tops can be done in a variety of methods. Your choices of tops are Formica, Solid wood and Granite. There are a number of pro's and cons to each of the options.
Replacement Kitchen Tops: Formica
Formica is the most commonly used material in kitchen tops in Pretoria, Centurion and most of South Africa. Formica tops are basically chipbard tops with a formica laminate giving it it's appearance, Formica comes in a number of different colours and finishes including, wood, granite and plain colours. It can be in matt or gloss depending on the chosen range. Formica tops are hard wearing and I have personally seen examples of laminate tops in excess of 40 years old. I have also seen Formica tops that have started disintegrating less than 6 months after installation because they were not water proofed around sinks and other appliances. Part of my installation of tops is ensuring that they are treated against water damage on installation. I will offer a no questions asked 5 year guarantee against water damage of the formica tops in kitchens and bathrooms.
Replacement Kitchen Tops: Granite
As a person dedicated to environmental issues, I am not a big fan of granite. Granite is a non renewable resource. Harvesting Granite destroys landscapes and mountains. It has other advantages like longevity. All in all I think the advantages of Granite and stone are outweighed by the destruction of the environment. Still it's your kitchen and I will arrange installation of natural stone tops if you so desire.
Replacement Tops: Solid Wood
Trees grow and wood is harvested from them. This is called a renewable resource. I will laminate solid wood creating unique and good looking tops that will last a century and more. The range of timber available for tops is vast from light wood to dark wood. I am a big fan of Beech for tops when a light colour is desired and Rosewood or Mahogany for darker finishes. Wood tops are easy to maintain and keep clean.
Refacing Doors
Depending on your existing kitchen, doors can be hand painted, resprayed and or replaced with a variety of finishes and styles from melamine to solid wood.
